The Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bangalore, is organising Research Methodology Course in Social Science Research for research scholars, post-doctoral researchers and teachers from universities, colleges and academic institutions belonging to SCs & STs from 9 18 March 2020. The course is sponsored by the ICSSR, New Delhi.

Course Structure

The course is structured as a two-week residential program with classroom instruction, assignments, hands-on experiences.

Themes

  • To begin with, the course will give outline of the conceptual and theoretical approaches on emerging areas of social science research.

  • This will be followed by different methods in qualitative and quantitative research.  

  •  Exposure to basic statistics and econometrics with hands-on experiences.

  •  Ethical and gender issues in social science research.

  • Consolidation of research findings, research report and dissemination.

  • Introduction to statistical packages like SPSS, STATA etc.

  • Training on handling large scale data sets like NSSO Unit level data using SPSS and STATA

The course will be taught by eminent academicians of the Institute and others.

participate?

Young social science researchers/academics/teachers from research institutes, colleges, universities, NGOs and other research agencies belonging to SCs/STs social groups.

Minimum

qualifications

Master’s Degree in any Social Sciences discipline.

No. of

participants

18 participants will be selected on all-India basis. Preference will be given to physically challenged and female candidates  

Boarding,

lodging and travel

Outstation participants will be provided free boarding and lodging facility in the ISEC campus (subjected to its availability).

A 3-tier AC Train/ bus fare on the basis of participant’s eligibility by the shortest route will be reimbursed to the selected candidates from the place of study/work.

Interested candidates who desire to participate in the course may download the prescribed application form and fill up and send along with a detailed CV of the candidate, relevant documents, a note on their area of research interest and reason for participation in the course and a forwarding letter from candidates’ Institution to the course co-ordinator through e-mail (malini@isec.ac.in  and/or channamma@isec.ac.in)  or by post to the course coordinators with a superscript asResearch Methodology Course in Social Science Research for SC/ST on or before 15th February 2020.

Selection

method

Applications will be scrutinised thoroughly. Selected candidates will be intimated by 3rd week of February 2020. The decision of the selection committee is final.
